Intensives

In addition to monthly offerings, Suncoast Institute offers the following intensives and training programs  at various times during the year and as requested by organizations:

INTENSIVES

  • Admit Smart, Document Well and Assure A Sound Business (2-day Intensive)
Maintaining a Caring Sanctuary and Sound Business in today's hospice environment is becoming more complex with the critical challenges of focused medical reviews, ADRs, survey readiness, the new CoPs and competitive markets.  This intensive workshop being offered by a successful comprehensive hospice will help break down access barriers, provide practical systems to admit, document to assure excellence in communications and care and assure proper reimbursement.

  • Proactive IDT Documentation Train-the-Trainer (2-day Intensive)
Continued scrutiny demands we provide effective documentation that reflects the value and need for hospice services.  This comprehensive program presents the Hospice Interdisciplinary Care Process through a critical thinking framework as a basis for documentation that reflects the hospice model of care.  This train-the-trainer program will allow the participant to implement this comprehensive documentation system in their agency.  It includes all the documentation training curriculum, teaching aides, guidelines, clinical reference/program integrity tools, and resources to train your staff and volunteers to "paint the picture" that justifies the value of our services.

  • Transform Your IDG...A Workshop for IDG Team Leaders, Clinical Managers and Team Facilitators (2-day Intensive)
Transform your IDG for effective, efficient, meaningful collaboration and improved quality of care! Optimal end of life experiences happen when the IDG is directed by patient/family values, experiences and needs. This intensive workshop incorporates over 30 years of "The Suncoast Hospice Experience" approach to care which prompts & highlights the value of best interdisciplinary practices. Practical approaches and tools will be offered to lead effective IDG meetings, support 24/7 team collaboration and accountability.  A mock IDG will demonstrate and share proven techniques to keep the team focused on patient/family outcomes, while valuing & supporting each member of the IDG.

  • Building Palliative Care Services:  Beyond Traditional Hospice (2-day Intensive)Palliative care programs are gaining in popularity as healthcare systems view them as an integral part of developing a continuum of services ranging from chronic care to end of life care.  This program will review the various models of delivering palliative care focusing on addressing a true continuum of care from pre-birth through old-age.  Issues to be addressed within each model will be mission directed focus, federal & state regulatory issues, operational concerns, reimbursement and marketing strategies.  Participants will have the opportunity to dialogue with palliative care experts who have experience delivering palliative care across the care continuum.

  • Building Capacity for Quality Service by Attracting and Retaining Volunteers (2-day Intensive)
Volunteers are the heart of hospice, giving unselfishly of their time to patients, families and the hospice organization.  Volunteers are one of the features of hospice which differentiate our services from all other healthcare organizations.  They give tremendous value to hospice and are as important to the hospice organization as other services, yet often volunteer services receive less attention than they deserve.  This program focuses on giving the volunteer manager the tools to recruit, train and retain volunteers, integrate them into the IDG and develop new volunteer opportunities and programs within the organization.

  • End of Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) (2 days - 15 hours teaching time - Identify T-t-T or Implement)
Funded by a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing joined forces with the City of Hope National Medical Center to propose a national effort to correct the deficiencies found in nursing education addressing peaceful end-of-life care. There are two different training levels targeting different populations, those with extensive end-of-life experience that wish to train others (Train the Trainer Program-[ T-t-T]) and those with minimal experience who will find the content to be a challenging growth opportunity (Implementation Training-[Implement]). The ELNEC curriculum contains nine modules addressing critical aspects of end-of-life care.

  • Accessing Family Caregivers Upstream from Hospice (2-day Intensive)
This award winning program is a caregiver-driven training designed to address end-of-life issues in a manner that helps caregivers find a sense of meaning, purpose and value in the end-of-life caregiving experience.  Based upon a national needs assessment this training responds to expressed wishes and desires of hospice family members and informal caregivers from across the nation.  Participants will be provided with the skills and training materials needed to implement an effective caregiver training program in their community.  This program won the 2003 National Council of Hospice & Palliative Professionals Award of Excellence for Public Education Program for Patients and Families, the 2003 Excellence in Research Award from The Center for Hospice, Palliative Care and End-of-Life Studies and recognized for Innovation and Quality in Healthcare and Aging, 2005, American Society on Aging.
